Board Membership

Term of office is two years.

The major election time is in the December meetings but if there are openings (there are 2 now) people may come to any of the meetings and nominate themselves. People who are regular users of Rita's Ranch (Scott Blvd.) are espeically encouraged to consider board membership. (see latest election results here)

• Monthly 2-hour meetings. 3rd Saturdays 2-4 p.m., usually in the Iowa City Public Library, Meeting Room E (2nd floor).
• Monthly work sessions in the dog parks. Currently these are held the Sunday after the board meeting, from 2-4 p.m. These work sessions involve poop cleanup, weed pulling, entrance cleanup, and a variety of other maintenance jobs. These work sessions are not, and should not be limited to only board members but it is up to them to recruit volunteers.
• Board members volunteer to do the things that need to get done and try to involve other volunteers. Members choose to work on things they are good at, enjoy and maybe even step forward just because somebody has to do it.
• Fundraising
  • The Board solicits donations and sponsors for fund raising events such as the spring EGGStravaganza, BONE-anza and Dog Paddle.
  • The Board organizes and runs the annual Dog Paddle held in the Iowa City pool the first two days after Labor Day. The Board also solicits other volunteers from the community to help run this popular event.
  • Other fundraising: sale of memorial bricks displayed in the entry to the Thornberry Park, Bark for a Park tote bags, sponsorships for poop-bag dispensers, park benches, shelter structures, etc.
• Opportunities in leadership
  • Officer terms are ending. The Board will need to identify a new president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.

  We know park users best by our dogs. Please share your dog/s name and breed/s. It helps us remember dogs are at the center of our efforts here.
