Our Report to You
Have you wondered how DogPAC has spent
its funds? The DogPAC treasurer created this pie
chart
to show JC DogPAC expenses from the first 5 years; the funds to pay those expenses came from donations
and park tag sales. You may think that
there is not THAT much concrete in the Thornberry Off-leash
Dog Park, and you are right. But the company that poured
the concrete also did all of the earth moving that was
necessary to create the pond and contour the land a bit
for better drainage.
Here is the expense report for 2009 through October.
If you have questions about JC DogPAC and how we spend our income,
come to a meeting or write to the board.
JC DogPAC needs on-going support!
Iowa City's first off-leash dog park opened on June 17, 2006, but there
is still work to do. In summer 2007 we installed the first
of 4 shelters and a posting board
for notices and information. In summer 2008 the other three shelters were built. The city built the shed in which we store agility equipment, brooms, shovels, etc. In summer of 2009 we paved the path in the Lucky Pawz Playground and extended that path to the 2nd shelter, and added a path to the shelter in the Linder Small Dog Yard. We still need to plant more
trees, re-paint and store the agility equipment at TOP,
and add benches. This park will only get better
with time!
In 2008 the city agreed to open a second off-leash area, called Rita's Ranch, in Scott Park on the east side of town. That park opened on July 25, 2009. Currently there are no trees in Rita's Ranch, and JC DogPAC wants to plant several.
JC DogPAC worked
for nearly three years to bring a dog park to our area.
We have received excellent support from the City of Iowa
City as well as local citizens and businesses. In September
2004, the City of Iowa City designated 11 acres of land
on the Peninsula
parkland to be developed into a dog park. Shortly after
that, JC DogPAC began working with landscape architects
from Shoemaker & Haaland to develop a park
plan, and on November 30, 2005, we had a groundbreaking ceremony as All American Concrete dug into the ground that will become the pond.
In October 2005, Dean Thornberry announced that
he would provide financial support to get the dog park
open. But DogPAC needs your support to maintain and improve
the park, as well as to create other off-leash areas in
Iowa City. Donations can be made in honor or memory of
a special pet or friend, and we have recognition
opportunities available for various giving levels.
Donations can be made as one-time gifts or as a pledge
over time.
