3-Year tags are available!
The dark magenta, (some say maroon or wine) tags expired December 31, 2009. Now, for the first time 1-, 2-, and 3-year tags are available. Each year will be a different color. there may be three different colors of valid tags seen in the park next year. A 1-year tag is always an option but if your dog's rabies vaccination expires in 2012 you have the option of purchasing a 3-year tag.
JC DogPAC receives 90% of the proceeds from dog park tags to improve and create off-leash parks. In 2009 the JCDogPAC
spent almost $30,000 on the construction Rita's Ranch Off
Leash Dog Park on Scott Blvd. Improvements like the asphalt walk in Thornberry cost almost $37,000. BUY TAGS! Every year. Lots of improvements are still desirable and there's that third park ... BUY TAGS!

The Dog Park tags are required by city ordinance and a $100 ticket may be issued if your dog is in either park without either a valid tag or a paid Day Pass.
Rita's Ranch Open
Rita's Ranch, located in Scott Park, opened in July, 2009. You need a park permit tag for this park too. The same tag lets you into either park. Both parks have the same rules and etiquette.
Rita's Ranch is a two-yard park for now. Both sides are open usually but the city may close one as needed to repair the grass or do maintenance on either yard. Park users have found that it is useful sometimes to segregate dogs when they're not getting along by closing the gates between sections.
Money is set aside to create a separate small dog area when the location is decided.
Sunday Clean Up
Park clean ups are held on the 2nd Sunday of each month, 2-4 pm.
Everyone is welcome to come help remove trash and unclaimed poop from the parks.
Even though the Thornberry and Rita's Ranch Off-Leash Dog Parks are open, there is still plenty going on that you might want to know about. Please join the JC DogPAC email list to find out about volunteer opportunities, park news, and more.
