The Original Project
The mission of JC DogPAC is to create
and maintain off-leash dog parks in Johnson County.
We are very grateful to those who have already made
donations of all sized to help us fund the construction
of Thornberry Off-Leash Dog Park (TOP), the first off-leash
park in Johnson County. The park opened in June 2007
and it has been a great addition to our
community. In the first 18 months TOP was open, more
than 3000 park permit tags were sold.
Maintenance & Improvement;
More Parks
However, DogPAC's work doesn't end with
the opening of this park. Now that Thornberry Park
is open, DogPAC's focus has switched
from park construction to park maintenance and improvement.
We work with the City of Iowa City
to provide for the upkeep of our park, provide additional
amenities (such as more shelters
and benches, and a shed for the agility equipment),
and continue to add to the landscaping at the park.
Once the Thornberry Park became such
a success and was mostly complete, DogPAC
began planning for future dog parks in Johnson
County. The second off-leash area will be in Scott
Park on the east side of Iowa City. That area will
not have all the features of the Thornberry Park, but
it will need fencing, poop bags and dispensers, and
city maintenance.
